Sunday Mar. 8, 1868
Start early and keep right up the river not turning out at Woolly satux but chi peet nearly opposite that place. There is no road, and the snow thrown up into small drifts by the wind has a crust which breaks uncdr the feet but not under the snow shoe which makes it very hard walking. Get my deerskin breeches and shirt perfectly [flabby with sweat, from shoving the sled; but the cold wind, always ahead, strikes a chill to the very bones, on the slightest attempt to rest. Quite worn out we stop at Denisons Point and drink tea again just as the sun sets. Giving my sled to an Indian I run ahead of the dogs to rest the muscles of my arms & back. Reach Nulato after dark about 8 PM. Cache the bidarra. Find all right in the house. Change all my clothes immediately. Chi peet with Ivan and turn in but pass a sleepless night as I am too tired and feverish to sleep.
