Storsman & Blackbird leave with the dogs early in the morning. Also Tekunka. Spend most of the day [[?drawing]] out lead to make shot. I shall have to make all my shot by hand this year, a great job. Am going to make candles of deer fat of which I have a lot on hand. Get Paspilkoff to make a mould. Shall try to make soap too but the ashes here are very weak in alkali. Take a bath today

17 fish in the trap. Make 3 candles which burn very well but they are not very hard & easily broken; the deer tallow being softer than ordinary candle grease. A small portion of my nose today peeled off having been frozen on the road. The nail of my right great toe has also deserted me, its vitality having been destroyed by the constant wear of the snow shoe strap. Get some tobacco from the store. It is very bad, hardly fit to smoke and this is a great discomfort to me.
