Get all my boxes aboard in the morning, by Isaacs bidarra. Clean up and get every thing ready to go aboard at a minutes notice. Get a pair of gloves from Wasilisa and some matches from from Andreas. Finally go aboard with my traps at night. Capt. Smith has been obliged to take Burgham who pays $200.00 passage money to St. Georges. I am very sorry for he is a very disagreeable man as well as one of the meanest of Jews.

Takaitsky. Reports unfavorably as to Kurills prospects of killing deer + geese. In the evening Johnnie + Pedro start off on a shooting expedition on the other side of the river to be gone all night. Leaving me like the solitary pelican in the wilderness, alone.

Johnny comes back with two gray geese. No signs of Kurilla. Get some washing done. Ivan brings me in a fishhawk + I get two other birds new to my collection. Johnnie sleeps on the island. Skin three birds. 
[line] Thursday May 7 [line]
Johnny comes back without anything, takes his chi and off again, again uselessly, as he gets nothing. Day very fine + warm. Get my tent mended up as the border is very rottenfrom being so long encamped at the Redoubt. Expect Kurill but he dont come
