little grub on board the schooner & a little afterward supper with Adams.  Get Froemer lodgings with Kogenikoff.  Kogenikoff & the other Russians leave with the Barkas under the charge of Mike this morning.  Give them a salute of an indefinite number of guns.  Take a walk with Froemer in the evening.  Ikkes sister, her husband & his sister all died at the Shactolik, the other day, from the effects of a poisonous plant accidentally dropped into the pot, by a little child.  Have a bath.

Saturday July 25
Morning rise very late.  Get tea & go aboard the schooner.  Dine there & come ashore with Smith & Morse.  Turn and sort all my mink & marten.  There are about 22 splendid sable - and about 85 or 90 fair ones.  Go in and see Bergham.  He is getting along fairly.  Russians drunk again in the afternoon, got the liquor from the Thos. Woodard - which leaves in a day or two.  Bean is putting up a house of telegraph poles which Capt. Smith brought down from Grantley Harton.

Wednesday May 20. '68
Today, Last Year the Youkon broke up.  This year it will be 6 or 8 days later.  Snow followed by rain in the night raises the water a good deal.  Manook kills a new owl.  Yeto leaves for Coltog.  A good deal of water comes down during the day.  The track is well covered with snow yet.  Sprinkles at intervals.  Kurill kills one goose - & 4 birds.

Thursday May 21.
Cold and windy - water rises a little; dull weather with a South wind.  Kurill goes out shooting.  Kills a sandhill crane.  Sidorka brings in several small birds.  Give him some fine shot.

Friday May 22
Morning water very high compared with yesterday.  Cold & windy.  Bath today.  The Russian raft is nearly finished.  Skin a lot of birds & the crane Kurill killed yesterday.  Kurill and Johnnie go over to the island and spend the night
