All hands start out, just in time to get out of the rocks.  Get the skin put on the boat, cut & sewed & get Alexie to make a shield for the rudder pins.  Tie her up, and leave her to dry.  Can do nothing today for there is a tremendous gale blowing.  The Jews sent a large quantity of rum up the Youkon to the Mission.  Buy a mink parkie of Ananyan and a mink tail collar, of Pavloff.

Monday July 13
Morning Go to work tarring my boxes.  Milavanoff sends for me and makes me a present of 8 foxes, white & blue.  The white ones will go toward a good blanket.  But he absolutely [[underline]] forces [[\underline]] me to drink over a tumbler full, of strong brandy, and I leave his tent in serious anticipation of being intoxicated, but escape that disgrace;  anyhow, to my great relief.  Work up in the store.  Pack a box & keg.  Mike buys the Barkas.  Day very cold, rainy and windy.  Stepanoff has not showed his face for 3 days.

Thursday June 4
Start early, and for a very short distance, sail;  but soon have to give that up as the wind comes up nearly dead ahead.  Go into a slough which Kurill says is a shortcut, but meet a terrible wind which blowing against the current makes quite a sea and we cannot go on.  Chi peet here.  Find fresh black bear tracks on the shore.  Put back into the main river much to Kurills disgust and find it much better going.  Close to Yakutzkalatenik see a large otter running along the beach, but it takes to the water & is lost.  Camp at the Yak. River, leaving the birth canoe near the house and finding many fresh beaver tracks on the banks.  Rains 

Friday June 5
Early in the morning kill a small male beaver, soon after push off and work very hard
