[[circled]] 18 [[/circled]] October 26, 1962 Agua Bonita 6:25 am. 8350 ft. Mixed flock passes by. Can't identify any of the components, except 1 or 2 Yellow-faced Redstarts. Flock certainly included 1 tree-creeper, others. There was also a Duburia [[?]] singing on the outskirts (rear) of the group almost all the time. The larger mixed flocks around here seem as well organized & "purposeful" as the higher altitude flocks in Chiriqui 6:50 am. Another large mixed flock an area. Noisy. Again I failed to identify most of components. But definitely included 1 or more [[underline]] Hemispingus atropileus, [[/underline]] 1 or more [[underline]]B. nigrocristatus, [[/underline]] 1 or more Firebellies, furnariids. The [[underline]] Hemispingus [[/underline]] seemed to be leading at least part of the time. The [[underline]] B. nigrocristatus [[/underline]] was certainly following part of the time. Perhaps the reason the [[underline]] B. nigrocristatus [[/underline]] near Nono and Guasca do not join mixed flocks is that there are no suitable species of [[underline]] Chlorospingus, Hemispingus, or Cnemoscopus [[/underline]] around?? Some [[underline]] B. nigrocristatus [[/underline]] here and above Bogota may also join other flocks, not containing any "bush-tanagers", simply because they have "gotten into the habit" of joining flocks because and when bush-tanagers are (usually) present. Working in mountains above Bogota this afternoon 5:20 pm. 9800 ft. Came across 1 or 2 [[underline]] B. nigrocristatus [[/underline]] noisy songs and CN's. But [[underline]] not [[/underline]] associated with other species NOTE: Altho most of the [[underline]] B. nigrocristatus [[/underline]] observed wi [[end page]]
