Munchique

7:00am. Small ravine near Finca[[??]]. Approximately same altitude as Finca (7800 ft - 2400 mt). See single ^[[one red check mark; red number 1 in page margin]] [[underline]] Atlapetes rufinucha [[/underline]] (white spot on wing). Moving thru low, bare trees, in open marshy area. Uttering "Seeet" Notes. Apparently alone.

Move on a little further, and see that this is really a family group of ^[[two red check marks; red number 3 in page margin]] [[underline]] Atlapetes rufinucha [[/underline]]. 2 adults and at least 1 juvenile Juv. sounds as if it were begging. But group still apparently alone.

Arrive adjacent patch of what looks like second growth forest, 7:15. Apparently nothing around. Not even Deglossini - altho there are some pink Panifloras around.

7:25. I can hear a few birds moving about, without seeing them.

Then see single ^[[one red check mark; red 4 in page margin]] Blue + Black ([[underline]] Tangara vassorii [[/underline]]) Alone. In tree traps 20 ft above ground. 7900 ft.

The underbrush in this patch of forest is not very dense. Eaten by cattle? But this [[underline]] may [[/underline]] help to explain why Albis seem to be absent.

God! It [[underline]] is [[/underline]] humid here. It has stopped raining, but everything is just [[underline]] dripping [[/underline]].

Sun coming out 7:50. Go up to 8075 ft, without seeing anything more except hummingbirds. There are a lot of the latter in the forest here.

See a single Sooty Thrush alone.

Going up a little farther, get to region where undergrowth in forest is quite thick. This sort of vegetation would be [[underline]] full [[/underline]] of birds on the Pico de Espejo in the Sierra de Merida. Including Albis. But it apparently isn't here. Why???

Transcription Notes:
Had a VERY difficult time reading this handwriting. It looks like this location is Munchique (as in perhaps Munchique National Park in Colombia). However notes go on to say that he's near Finca (Finca? Tinca?) at an elevation of about 7800ft. I see no location called Finca or Tinca on Google Maps anywhere near Munchique National Park in Colombia, much less at an elevation of 7800ft, to verify that I'm reading this right. Is this Colombia? Peru? Somewhere else? Towards the end of the page, looks like it reads "See a single Sooty Thrush[?] alone". Wikipedia says the Sooty Thrush lives in Costa Rica and Panama, so not consistent with this being field notes in Munchique National Park in Colombia, but is consistent with being observed over 2200 meters in elevation. Munchique does have elevations as high as 8075 feet according to Google Maps. Maybe wikipedia is wrong about where these birds are found? Maybe these birds were in Munchique 50 years ago when these notes were taken?
