It was quite foggy throughout the whole period I had this group under observation. Also warm [[underlined]]and[[/underlined]] windless. [[underlined]]These would seem to be ideal conditions for the formation of mixed flocks[[/underlined]].
I wonder if there are any special interspecific preferences involved in the [[underlined]]Cnemoscopus[[/underlined]] - [[underlined]]Chlorospingus canigularis[[/underlined]] relationship??? The two species are remarkably similar in coloration, and not very dissimilar in pattern. (The presumed [[underlined]]Hemispingus superciliaris[[/underlined]] might also fit into this tight little group.)
I wonder if the Ruddy Flycatcher has a special interspecific preference for [[underlined]]Cnemoscopus[[/underlined]]? (It was certainly moving [[underlined]]right along[[/underlined]] with the group this afternoon. Nothing at all casual about the association.) It seems to me that the only mixed flocks I have seen it with have also included [[underlined]]Cnemoscopus[[/underlined]]. Certainly it sometimes occurs by itself alone here, quite apart from mixed flocks. (I [[underlined]]think[[/underlined]] I have also seen it alone in other parts of the Andes.)
Going down back road. Fog thickening. Reach spot where "glauc" seen a couple of days ago. 4:55. Find another mixed flock. Whole group of birds moving thru second-growth scrub, 2-15 ft above ground. [[margin]] [[purple]] XI HO [[/purple]] [[green]] 120 [[/green]] [[/margin]] Including 3 [[green]] 3 check marks [[/green]] Yellow-faced Whitestarts, at least 2[[green]] 2 check marks [[/green]] [[underlined]]Chlorospingus [[margin]] [[green]] 121 [[/green]] [[/margin]] canigularis[[/underlined]], 1 [[green]] 1 check mark [[/green]] Blue & Black (!) [[underlined]]Chlorospingus[[/underlined]] in lead. Both [[underlined]]Chlorospingus[[/underlined]] [[margin]] [[green]] 122 [[/green]] [[/margin]] and Whitestarts noisy. [[underlined]]A Sooty Thrush joins this group[[/underlined]] Lands in tree 20 ft away. Then seems to disappear. Thru the fog, I can also see some larger birds moving thru tall trees, behind, [[underlined]]parallel[[/underlined]] with the scrub group. Presumably members same flock. But I can't identify any of them.
[[margin]] [[red]] Albi? 23 [[/red]] [[/margin]] "Glauc" [[red]] check mark [[/red]] appears, [[underlined]]very[[/underlined]] briefly, in scrub after group has moved on. Also a reddish Synallaxis[[red]] check mark [[/red]]. Neither shows any desire to follow group.
