9:55 am. Another single [[green checkmark]] Firebelly flies by alone. Plunges into thick alpine scrub. It's mate [[underlined]] may [[/underlined]] be in this patch of scrub already, but remains invisible.

In any case, there certainly are other birds in the scrub. At least [[green checkmark]] 1 Blue & Orange Tanager and [[2 green checkmarks]] 2 White-bearded Flycatchers. All 2 - 4ft above ground. Definitely keeping under "canopy" of scrub. All close together. Silent, except for "CN's. Then group moves off, [[underlined]] very [[/underlined]] low in scrub. Whitebearded flycatchers f------> group.

Leaving 10:05 am.

COMMENTS:
Today's observations would seen to confirm my earlier impression of the mixed flocks here. Most nearly comparable to mixed flocks in the Eastern Cordillera. The same "type" of flocks (i.e."blue and yellow montane tanagers" & Atlapetes); although some of the species are different. Possibly (?) mixed flocks are a [[underlined]] little [[/underlined]] less common here than in the Eastern Cordillera. And they [[underlined]] do [[/underlined]] seem to be most conspicuous when weather is [[underlined]] only slightly [[/underlined]] bad. (Incidentally, I rather wonder why I haven't seen more "arboreal" flocks along the edges of tall forest. And certain species which one might have expected seem to be very conspicuously absent. E.g. [[underlined]] cyanocephala [[/underlined]] the PR Atlapetes, and, probably, [[underlined]] Basileuterus nigrocristatus [[/underlined]]. The absence of the first two is particularly surprising, in view of their presence in Munchique
