Monday May 19
Get into Unimak Pass early in the morning which is cloudy with a [smart?] NNW breeze. Struggle painfully, along against the opposing tide of 3 - 4 knots per hour. about night. off Akhun Bay. Look into the Bay Smith spoke of but see nothing remarkable. 

Tuesday May 20
Come in about 8 A.M. into Captain's Bay. Pass to the NW of the Rocks and anchor in Iliuliuk Harbor at 10.30. Giles comes aboard on the way and we find that the Alexandra is here having made two ineffectual attempts to reach the Seal Islands and found the ice 18 and 40 miles south of St. George, very thick & solid. The season is very late, there is much more snow on the ground than has been seen for a number of years at this season, and the spring has been very cold. Smith has not yet arrived with the Eustace.
