Friday Oct 3, 1873 Day with fresh NE winds, more or less rainy and with a bad sea making slow progress toward our destination Saturday Oct. 4 Blowing hard all day. with rain and squalls. Making headway under double reefs. P.M. moderates a little and sea becomes more quiet. Sunday Oct. 5 Very strong WNW breeze, make seal rocks about 8 A.M. & pass Delaroff Harbor where they set the flags for us and beat up Popoff Straits anchoring in Humboldt Harbor, our old station of last year, about 12.30 P.M. Catch a good many codfish over the side. P.M. rainy & blowy. Monday Oct 6 Day half clear with fresh strong NW wind. Obs. for azimuth & latitude partly interfered with by clouds & wind. Go down to sand point & walk back to vessel. Capt Herendeen catches some trout in P.M. work over monthly reports.
