Western border, the Aleution chain in this vicinity and continues hence Eastward to the Mainland. In P.M. the horizon being unusually clear we see all the peaks of Unimak including Shishaldin, which last is 106 miles away. Obtaining the mean of a large series of altitudes, and getting the distance more accurately by the difference of astronomical positions, we obtain a height for it 8683 ft which differs only 72 ft from the elevation given by Teb^[[i]]enkoff. 
Speak the Schr "Hutchinson" bound for the Western islands. After dark a strong S.E. breeze with squalls springs up and we lay off and on near the  mouth of Unalashka Harbor, waiting for daylight to beat in.
