"visited" by at least 2 [[insert,in blue]] 3 [[/insert]] [[2 checkmarks]] [[insert,in pencil]] 213 [[/insert]] hummingbird "XX"s. Whitestart Sings from time to time. NODWAH.

Then a huge road scraper comes along road. Making a terrific racket. This seems to [[underlined]] provoke [[/underlined]] a lot of Songs by the Whitestart CXXVII. (Good evidence that the Songs of this species are hostile.) And these Songs, in turn, provoke a lot of the "usual" rattles. [[underlined]] Are these rattles with Whitestart Songs uttered by Cheek Atlapetes [[/underlined]] ??? I rather think so!

[[left margin in red]] Nocti [[/left margin]]

7:28 am. Hear more Nocti Songs up hill. NODWAH.

Stop. (NOTE: These certainly never provoke rattles by anything.)

COMMENTS: The rattles which tend to accompany CXXVII Songs would seem to be "ideally" adapted to increase the conspicuousness of a group and thus attract additional numbers.

The CXXVII - Cheek Atlapetes relationship would appear to be the strongest of all the "friendly" relationships in this region. Probably stronger than most comparable relationships in other parts of the Andes. Of course, the isolation of this area probably provides unusually favorable opportunities for developing such relationships.

7:45 am. Walking further up road. Region of low fern scrub interspersed with low bushes. See group of 4 [[3 checkmarks]] [[insert,in pencil]] 83 [[/insert]] Cheek Atlapetes. 1 - 3ft up. Noisy. But definitely alone.

[[left margin in red]] Nocti [[/left margin]]

8:15am. Back first Nocti area. See single [[checkmark]] [[insert,in pencil]] 83 [[/insert]] Nocti, perched silent and alone, in lush scrub below road. Flies uphill.

Then see group in USTF and scrub of ravine.
