t have been completely mobbing. Too many following and joining reactions. (It must also be significant that I have never been mobbed by many species in the Quito region.)

Note that this group was [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] joined by Slate-throated Whitestarts (altho there must be plenty around in the neighborhood). Nor by squirrels.

Ca. 10:00am. The pair [[two red, two blue checkmarks]] [[circled in blue]] 33 [[/circled]] of WM's returns. Utter a few "Tut"s and then disappear. Apparently alone.

It seems quite possible that the WM's were the leaders of the flock this morning simply because they began the mobbing part of the reaction.

10:23. Hear a number of songs in distance which might be Cy.

See single Slate-throat [[1 pencil, 1 red, 1 blue checkmark]] [[circled in blue]] 34 [[/circled]] alone.

See single thrush alone (same species as at Paramo La Negra)

10:27. See pair [[2 pencil, 2 red, 2 blue checkmarks]] [[circled in blue]] 36 [[/circled]] [[underlined]] nigrocristatus [[/underlined]] feeding in tangles 10 - 20 ft above ground. Possibly same birds seen in flock earlier. (Still) noisy. Alone.

ADDITION: There also were [[3 blue, 3 pencil, 3 green checkmarks]] a lot of hummingbirds [[circled]] 7 8 [[/circled]] with the flock seen earlier. Incl. the white throated (or chested) no. I.

10:28. See single Cy [[1 pencil, 1 blue, 1 green checkmark]] feeding on whitish berries in tangle of vines only 20 ft away from the pair [[2 pencil, 2 blue, 2 green checkmarks]] of [[underlined]] nigrocristatus. [[/underlined]] Method of feeding is interesting. Sticks lower mandible straight [[underlined]] into [[/underlined]] berry, like a spear. At same time holds top of berry with upper mandible (the hook curves around nicely). Then mandibulates rapidly. Apparently extracting pulp and/or juice with tongue. [[underlined]] So the Cys here are frugivorous too. [[/underlined]] The bird also utters quite a lot of single "Tut"s. Probably reactions to my presence.
