My dear Dr. Merriam,

My attention has been called to a recent announcement in SCIENCE, January fourth, stating that the Tortuga Laboratory will be open next summer to a limited number of investigators.

I should like very much to avail myself of that opportunity [[strikethrough]] to  [[/strikethrough]] and spend a month or six weeks at the Laboratory for the purpose of studying and collecting the decapod crustacea [[strikethrough]] for the [[/strikethrough]] in preparation of a systematic-ecologic report of the [[strikethrough]] Tortuga [[/strikethrough]] forms represented in the Tortugas region.  The systematic basis I contemplate would be on the order of a hard-book, useful in connection with such future studies as may be undertaken on the crustacea of that region, [[strikethrough]] amplified [[/strikethrough]] amplified and [[strikethrough]] made [[/strikethrough]] extended complete [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]] on the ecologic side, by such
