Expedition of 1850
Allowed 6 lbs. bread per man per week.
Appearance of the scurvy in 4 1/2 months in the Felix.
We learned that the [[strikethrough]] scurvy [[/strikethrough]] scale of victualling was very generous on board the Felix & that a very large proportion of preserved potatoes were in daily use now it came to be a most important question:  Did scurvy really appear among persons using preserved potatoes?  If it did, then the tuber loses its valuable anti-scurbative properties in the process by which it is preserved.
I believe the crew of the "Felix" used then [[underlined]] ad libitum [[/underlined]] for upwards of two months previous to the appearance of that disease
