With this sledge drawn by 9 dogs he travelled 50 miles over the ice ^[[in 12 hours]] [[strikethrough]] in 12 [[/strikethrough]] on the same sledge, accompanying him, were 7 full grown Esquimaux & two children! This statement is corobborated by Capt. Josiah Buddington, who was in the room when the statement was made.
Mr Sterry said "that the Esquimaux were the greatest generators of heat of any people on the face of the Earth - in fact," said he, [[underlined]] 'they are very hot stoves!' [[/underlined]] To prove this Mr. S. told this [[underlined]] laughable, [[/underlined]] if not ridiculous incident. One very cold day ^[[a party]] on returning from a long journey on sledges drawn by dogs ^[[Sterry]] [[strikethrough]] Sterry he had [[/strikethrough]] found that he had nearly frozen his feet. [[strikethrough]] Sterry [[/strikethrough]] He was ^[[immediately]] ushered into the snow-hut by the natives & every attention showed him that could be desired. On removing his boots ^[[or outer foot-gear]] it was found that the stockings [[strikethrough]] of feet covers [[/strikethrough]] were frozen to his feet. Quick as thought, this "Kabloona's" feet were burning on [[strikethrough]] the bare skin [[/strikethrough]] "A-very-hot-stove - to wit, were [[strikethrough]] being warmed [[/strikethrough]] ^[[fairly & [[?flatter]] resting]] on the bare abdomen of a Lady Esquimaux!
Capt. B. & Mr Sterry state [[strikethrough]] the full this [[/strikethrough]] as a fact that it ^[[is]] uniformly the custom
