I took but an hour in perusing it - Shall endeavour to consult it to-morrow. I must obtain extracts of its pages. - Called at the office of Rob. ^[[& excellent]] in class & kind, yet the intellectual feast was far more congenial to my hungry soul - The Kanes are just what I had a right to expect from the genius & noble soul of their brother Dr. Kane, who tho dead, yet lives ^[[to]] animate & [[strikethrough]] leads to [[/strikethrough]] to deeds of goodness & glory. I shall ever remember the warm greetings - the cordiality extended to me by Robt. & John Kane.
Robert ^[[Kane, Esq.]] kindly offered to do me any favor desired to forward the Cause for wh. I am engaged. How can I - with so poor a heart as mine - acknowledge properly this act? John Kane, M.D. has [[strikethrough]] got [[/strikethrough]] a happy faculty of communicating "Narration" in ^[[the]] soul-firing way of his brother Elisha. May the day soon come when the [[underlined]] Greatness, I know is within his soul, [[/underlined]] shall break its prison walls - & write: 'Free - Free to do thy bidding O God. - If to me thou hast given ^[[me]] the talents, [[underlined]] I will be true to Thy Trust." [[/underlined]] Robt. said if it was indicated that more than the $2,500 was wanted - [[underlined]] it could be raised! [[/underlined]]
