I am now getting in readiness for [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] Tucto (deer) hunting excursion with a party of Esquimaux under the guidance of "Mgan - the intelligent traveller.
To-day Keeney met with a serious accident of mashing his foot while hoisting up heavy casks of provision. He will have to lay by for some time.
Last night 11 to 12 o clock attending on Stenny whose hip was so painful that his cries & groans drew forth my heartfelt sympathy. I, however, by free use of "Perry Davis Pain Killer" applying it with my hand, chaffing the part afflicted, succeeded in alleviating the pain, so effectually, indeed, that ere I left his couch, Stenny was enjoying sweet, balmy sleep.
The colors of the "George Henry" are now at the mast head flaunting in the breeze, designed especially for calling the natives aboard. They are supposed to be off deer - hunting.
A boat's crew of ours, headed by Mate Gardiner, took a boat [strikethrough] this [/strikethrough] ^[[yesterday]] morning immediately on dropping anchor, for the object of finding the natives who usually reside here. Capt. B. has one boat's crew of natives engaged whom he brought down in the George Henry & Rescu from Uu-Kaad-lem & now he wishes to employ another.
The harbor where we are anchored is one that is hard to find, but perfectly safe when found. The vessels lie as quiet as though at ^[[one of the]] N.Y. wharves.
The "George Henry" presents a scene as lively as a Bee-hive; Taking out ^[[oil]] Casks, lumber ^[[etc.]] & transporting them to a small island 1/2 mile off. The exciting rush of capturing these monsters of the deep is expected to commence next week. There is Fall & Spring Whaling here North, commencing & ending at stated seasons.
