he surveyed ordered his nulianna (wife) to go ahead! She grasped the break & worked on while he "Myar" strutted the deck. The wind had died away therefore to get out of harbor were obliged to order out 2 Boat's crews to tow. To make the work more expeditious a Boat's crew from the "George Henry" was called out to assist. We went through a channel in making [[strikethrough]] out [[/strikethrough]] our departure that probably was never navigated before. Capt. B. sent a man [[strikethrough]] up [[/strikethrough]] aloft to look out for rocks below while I was standing on the bow on same duty. Rocks I saw away down 5 & 10 fathoms deep - they looked white & yawning but they [[strikethrough]] were [[/strikethrough]] are harmless even tho their heads were much higher
The "Rescue" is rock proof! will outride any thing, so we all think. Past trials have made her virtues shine. The Rescue only draws 8 feet.
At VIII o'clock a moderate breeze filled our sails thus allowing the Boat's crew of the G.H. to return while our 2 Boats were taken on board. On we went, crossing Kneu-gum-my ooke Bay in fine style in a direction a little westerly of Bear Sound up Frobisher. Capt. B. who is a crack marksman with a rifle, A. No 1 of the Arctic Regions, chalanged me to a trial [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] at rifle shooting - at a mark!
I accepted the invitation. A flour Barrel was set up a-stern & chalked. Capt. shot & so did I. Capt. reported the trial & so Wong[[?]] (I). Strange as it was: It was generally considered that I won the palm. We afterward had other shots But somehow the Capt.'s hand was very unsteady that day so I had a chance to show that I was the best of the crowd excelling the acknowledged No 1.
Some time before we reached the entrance to the [[strikethrough]] harbor [[/strikethrough]] Bay we were directed to we saw ahead of us a thousand or more seals that were having what is denominated a "Seal's Wedding".
When nearby in line with "Table Mountain" - a mount that has an even "table-top", the only one of like character - I took Magnetic bearings of said mountain & the furtherest limit of the Island called Hall's Island. The Island bore E.S.E. 42 E (True) "Table Mount" bore (1 mile off) N.W. by N. true allowing 60° variation
The trend of the N. side of the land from Hall-Island, to Bear Sound is something like this [[image - drawing]] Label Hall Island on the far left an irregular line extends across the page slopes upward then downward leading to an inlet labeled Bear Sound [[/image - drawing]]
