Thursday, Aug 23d 1860
I slept soundly last night - arose at 5 - found Capt. B. had be-taken himself to a boat & with a native crew [[strikethrough]] & [[/strikethrough]] pushed on Home, to wit; to the George Henry". He has sent back 2 boats & crews to assist in towing us along. We are now within 5 miles of the harbor.
We entered to our anchorage by a new channel, at VII, ^[[this morning]] having been gone 48 hours, [[strikethrough]] about [[/strikethrough]] All in all, a glorious good time we have had in this trip.
Packing up "duds", I left the Rescue, accompanied by [[strikethrough]] with [[/strikethrough]] Mgan, his nuliana, Ku ni a             .
My return was heartily greeted by many a kind hand. A good breakfast on Board the George Henry set every thing to rights, especially so, on the part of the abdominal pantry of Capt. B!
The main purpose of this cruise has been to look out suitable harbor in wh. to winter the Rescue. It is proposed to try Spring - Whaling [[strikethrough]] soon [[/strikethrough]] in Frobisher Strait sledding the blubber & bone over Hall's Isthmus to the Bay we have just visited.
After tea, I thought it worth my time to take a tramp up the mountain, N.E. of us. A Boat's crew soon landed me at the Esquimaux village between the vessels & the mountain.
I passed [[strikethrough]] on [[/strikethrough]] about 1/2 mile, when I came to a grave - a mound of sand - at the head of wh. was the following inscription cut upon a raised wood tablet:
