Friday Aug 31st 1860.
AM "thick fog" on our return from [[underlined]] the Boat excursion [[/underlined]] of yesterday
Friday, Aug. 31st 1860.
A heavy rain set in last evening - [[strikethrough]] has [[/strikethrough]] & continued through the night & all day.
This is the last day of [[insertion]] the [[strikethrough]] so call [[/strikethrough]] [[/insertion]] summer of the States. [[striketrough]] Home there [[/strikethrough]] wh. [[underlined]] there [[/underlined]] is succeeded by Autumn - golden Autumn
But here there are but two Seasons. Long winter of 8 & 9 months & short summer from 3 to 4 months
Ku-jes-se is now employed by me in sketching a chart of Northumberland Inlet - oo-good-lem Bay
New-gum-my-uke[[guess]] Bay Frobisher Strait & coasts there[[?]] adjacent. He commences [[strikethrough]] his [[/strikethrough]] & continues his work [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] when he pleases. He [[strikethrough]] has [[/strikethrough]] exhibits talent of the most gifted order. He is a very intelligent traveller
I like him much.
Myar has proposed that I take one of his wives Kum-ni-u along with my Expedition next summer to King's Cape (Fox's discovery) where she was born & raised. I doubt not she would be of invaluable service for she is one of the best pilots in the North
She it was that piloted us into our present quarters. She it was [[insertion]] with Myar [[/insertion]] who piloted us to the Bay where we went on our Rescue Excursion the other day. She has communicated facts relative to the so called Frobisher Strait that almost convince me it will prove to be as Cumberland Strait is now
