Friday Sept 14 1860
This morning wind blowing strong from N.W. Air clear & invigorating. The day has been a fine one save this inconvenience felt from too much wind.
The cold which I took in my last mountain tramp has effected me more seriously [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] than I estimated at 1st. But, God Willing, I will soon recover my wanted health & yet live & work on ^[[doing]] [[strikethrough]] to do [[/strikethrough]] some service [[strikethrough]] yet [[/strikethrough]] for the Cause of Man - & my Redeemer.

I hear the Captain giving off orders 'All hands up at 4 o'clock to-morrow morning'! This starts them all to their sleeping quarters.

He's a first rate scholar ^[[in]] - or on, I should say, master of the Esquimaux language, speaking it as fluently as his own Anglo-Saxon vernacular, made several [[strikethrough]] h[[?]] [[/strikethrough]] noble attempts, but his success did not in this, almost jaw-breaking race, far out strip mine. At length the Capt settled back & honorably gave it up, remarking ^[[very measuredly]]
