A singular fact relative to doing up her hair, & keeping her face & hands clean, wearing civilization dresses: Others of her sex in considerable numbers follow these fashions imported by her. This shows to me what one person like Tou-le-tou could accomplish in way ^[[of]] the introduction of schools & churches among this people. The giving Tou-le-tou an education in the States, & the ^[[subsequent]] employment of him in connection [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] with several Missionar^[[i]]es ^[[here]] would serve to advance a [[underlined]] noble & good work. She has got so that she can spell words of 2 letters & pronounce many of them properly. Her progress is praiseworthy. Tou-le-tou is far more anxious to learn to read a write then E-birn-bing. They can talk with me in my own vernacular - are both smart, & ^[[will be]] useful - Each in the department called upon to fill.
