[[?m]] or so ago I was endeavouring to get [[strikethrough]] the names of the [[?]] children of Twe-oonge. I questioned [[?]] & re-questioned her & felt satisfied that Charley- her son was really named "Shoo-Kung". A few days intervening Twe-oonge came aboard having with her a pretty little girl - about 6 years of age fair features- & rozy cheeks. I enquired [[the?]] name and found it Shoo-Kong. On a month[[?]] of investigation found my misunderstanding. During the last voyage of [[Capt]] B. here, a misunderstanding [[?]] ^on them coming into the Country between nearly all on board & the [[Esquimaux?]] with whom Capt B. & many of [[officers?]] were ^well acquainted. Ugan & his [[?]] had ^recently found a dead whale (called by [[?]] whalers "stinters" -) at least so it was understood from what Ugan & the ^other Esquimaux generally [[?]]. It ran on for a month when the hirtward[[?]] fact came innvertently out that [[?]] & others had actually[[strikethrough]] actually [[/strikethrough]]
harpooned [[killed ?]] the whale in question.
[[?]] on the part of the natives [[?]] it was intended [[?y]] the truth the whole truth & nothing [[?]][[b]]ut [[strikethrough]] by [[/strikethrough]] ^in some incomprehensible way the [[?]] mistook the facts.
