seasons this morning for their daily sealing excursion. They came to the vessel on their [[strikethrough]] er [[/strikethrough]] Kum-mo-tik drawn by 10 dogs - fine dogs indeed. Each Having drank his mug of hot coffee & eat his disc of hard bread retired to his place around the Kum-mo-tik (sledge). Thinking the morning air would prove beneficial if drawn in by a fast drive, I threw myself into the arms of the good natured sealers & away we went till brought up by a regular dogfight. The parties (my native friends) on the sledge, were Ebierbing, Driver with a whip (stock 18 inches long) lash 30 feet in length, Ugar, Chimerar-chu [[space]] (Charley) [[space]] (Sharkey)

Eve visited Nuk-er-tou & took along with me a skillet of gruel. She is not as well as yesterday. Ebierbing called there with me. Stopping here some time conversing with Chimerarchu & Kok-er-zhun, I then left to visit at Ebierbings. Found all busily engaged [[strikethrough]] on [[/strikethrough]] preparing Winter clothing. The evening was spent in conversation - in listening to native songs by the natives & seeing Ebierbing dance at the music of Tuk-oo-li-too's voice. If proper steps had been taken to learn Tuk-oo-li-too to sing when she & her winga visited England, she would have made an excellent singer. She has a smooth, sweet musical voice. I returned home by Moonlight alone & saftely by VII o'clock. Our evenings now begin at 3 o'clock.

[[strikethrough]] Atanawa [[/strikethrough]] An-na-wa, the Esquimaux whom with his family - Kujesse & his party, (myself accompanying) took to the upper & farther side of Rescue [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] Bay on the 30th of Aug. last arrived to-day at the upper village on a visit. This Esquimaux, a brother of some of the most enterprising men of the North, lives almost the life of a hermit, at least, he retires with his small family to a distant point far from all other Inuits living up an inlet on the North side of Frobisher Bay. Two or 3 times a year - he, or himself & family visit other Esquimaux. Otherwise he is secluded from [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] all habitations of men.
