Fridy, Dec. 28th 1860 Aurora this Morn - To-day Ebierbing & myself visited Esquimaux Upper Village for the purpose of pushing ahead with my necessary preparations, to wit, we went up there to purchase some Tuk-too [[strikethrough]] fur [[/strikethrough]] skins (Furs) for my winter dress. I made reference last night that I would state something to-day relative to the Frobisher Bay Excursion. Briefly here it is - As I have been & am, burning to visit in that direction, to wit, what I am satisfied is simply Frobisher Bay - to determine the actual limits of that Inlet, I have decided on the following by the acquiescence & concurence of Capt. B. - to start in about one week (- say when my fur dresses are ready) for Frobisher Bay. I am to be accompanied by Ebierbing & his nuliana Tuk-oo-li-too by Que-jes-se & his Tunukdelien - Chimerarchu & his Kokerzhun making in all a party of 7 of us - Six Esquimaux & one White Skin! We are to go on one Kam-moo-tik (sledge) driven by dogs. The route is Westerly across the Bay N Westerly thence Westerly overland. If the three Seal, Deer, [[end page]] [[start page]] 1860 Friday Dec 28th [[strikethrough]] & [[/strikethrough]] Walrus & Bear hunters are successful, I shall expect to keep the party out a month. In this time I can accomplish much. Of course we are to live in Igloos - Snow houses - the same character as those now occupied by the Innuits around here & into which I enter every day. No man should sleep in winter in a warmer room than an Igloo. [[underlined]] A truth! [[/underlined]] The wives always accompany their Wingas (husbands) on excursions of this nature - that is, where a considerable time is to expire & the men are to subsist by sealing &c. We expect to go direct at 1st to Han-na-wah's location which is on an Inlet [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] of "Frobisher Bay" It will be recollected that I accompanied this Esquimaux & his wife the former of a distinguished family up across "Rescue Bay" Last fall on his way home. Each man except myself will take his gun & Sealing apparatus. I shall take my rifle & sextant etc. Of course, fur bedding, lamps etc required in every Igloo will be carried - the weight will be but trifling. I have become quite well acquainted with each of the parties that are accompany me. Indeed, [[underlined]] they are all attached to me [[/underlined]] for the kindness I have endeavored to exercise toward them. All arrangements are now progressing. I now proceede with the visit to the upper village - As "Bailey" wished to go up there he accompanied us. A smart hour's walk found us up there - the ice of a rough character
