Wednesday Jan, 2d 1861 Thermometer at VI this morning 10° minus. At 10 A.M. 13 minus. I have noticed this fact that the thermometer depresses from VI to to sun-rise. Artarkparu from the upper village with one of his daughters was down at an early hour this Morn. Of course the disabled Exquimaux was drawn on a sledge by his team of 4 dogs. One dog will draw a man at considerable speed on the ice. This proved yesterday. I am now engaged busily getting ready for the Frobisher Bay trip. My company, which is to be larger than I first expected, are on hand. My Esquimaux rig (dress -"cap-a pie") is nearly done. Tuk-oo-li-too is making it. She has others at work assisting. To-day would have been a fine one to have started. The dogs (4) of Ebierbing are expected every day. They may be here - to-day. If not & it is possible to start to-morrow I shall do it providing it is a fine day. Capt. Budington is assisting me [[end page]] [[start page]] 1861 Jan 2d Wedns in my preparations for this anticipated trip. He has 1st Mate Rogers & some of the men aft making harnesses for the dogs.
