[[boxed]] 1861 Saturday Jan 5th [[boxed]] for the longed for ^[[journey,]] the announcement was made that Ugar was along side with his Konmetik & team of dogs. Of course, this was joyful news to me, for this Esquimaux had a [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] number of dogs that belonged to ^[[members of]] my company & ^[[for]] which I have been in wait. It will be recollected that several days since, the dogs should have been here but a good excuse is rendered - Ugar has been - & [[underlined]] is sick [[/underlined]] - He has been unable to seal, or hunt, but one day at Oo-kood-lear - the remainder of the time flat down in his Igloo. His Nos.1, & 2 wives, Nik-u-jar & Kun-ni-u, he left there at Oo-kood-lear Bay. [[strikethrough]] [[?]] only [[/strikethrough]] ^[[The]] game ^[[secured]] was none - [[strikethrough]] seal [[/strikethrough]] captured one Seal - Ugar started [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] this Morning from Oo-kood-lear & arrived at time indicated. Soon as he was along side got him aboard - warmed him up - Capt B. administered the proper medicine I ^[[have]] made him a comfortable bed by the entrance just with ^[[in]] the aft cabin taking from my bed my pillow - placing beneath & above him my sleeping bag my comforters & wearing apparrel. It does my heart good that I can contribute something toward the comfort of this people - Every night one, or several, remain here & I cannot retire till I see them cared for - well cared for. I despair not of the time coming when my country men will do something toward introducing the virtues of Civilization - Christianity among the noble race I find here.
