hole. I tried with the same spear but often failed. The truth is if the Esquimaux should be expert in one thing above another it should be in the use of the Oo-nar (Seal-Spear) for on the strike of one blow to a breathing hole for the Seal, less than the size of a half a dollar depends the success or non-success of capturing a Seal.

The discovery - my attention called upon [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] deck. The scratched back! The disclosure of momentous character (?) The G.H. in danger of being over - run by 'hanimals' of somewhat less size than dogs - or pieces of Chalk! [[underlined]] "Whatever is - is"! [[/underlined]]

Little Rak-e-ne-yer down with her father - to - day. I show her the illustrations in Parry-s Work.
My heart would not let me tell Sampson or his companions of same Igloo to vacate the Aft Cabin as they & theirs had treated me with kindness & attentive when up there the other day. In fact when hungry, they had dealt out liberally their seal meat & soup. Can I even forget them for this?

The Aurora is at play to night but faintly

Again have put Kim-mu-li at rest upon a Sea-Chest couch. She sleeps well. Nearly under my table, I have made a Capital bed of my clothes for Ugar placing over him my cloak & comforter.

VII AM
This Morn. 10 Minus, Bar 29.500
Light, Wind N.W. The Heavens clear save [[ [[strikethrough]] are active [[/strikethrough]] [[strikethrough]] arrange of [[/strikethrough]] a bright electric belt stretching arch like from the N.E. to the S.W. passing Zenith. This is 2 degrees wide & commences 25[[degree symbol]] from the horizon terminating same height. Of course the description of the Aurora [[underlined]] this minute [[/underlined]] will not be a truthful one of what it is the next. Oftentimes the change is [[underlined]] instantaneous [[/underlined]] & so continuing for hours. I believe from all the [[strikethrough]] accounts [[/strikethrough]] descriptions of the Aurora over the world I ever read that [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined]] this point [[/strikethrough]] is the most favorably situated for viewing the [[underlined]] finest [[/underlined]] displays of the Aurora on the Earth.

Seldom a night passes but the Southern Wn & En. heavens are streaked in Auroral gold.

I hope strongly that Que-jesse will return with the dogs to-day. I expect when he makes his appearance that a delay of 2 or 3 days will be necessary to feed up the dogs. They have, to all appearance, been subsisting on nothing for the past month. Now we have found an available Whale carcass they can go on adding to their stock of meat & muscle.

A short time indeed to allow the dogs access to this whale, but I am strongly in hopes that food for them [[strikethrough]] the dogs [[/strikethrough]] in sufficient quantity & of the proper kind will be found over to An-na-wha's who it will be recollected is in an Inlet from Frobisher Bay
