which is accordance to Innuit practice or custom yet be stated ere I close the day's record this was not all she was called upon to do.

Soon as Tuk-oo-li-too had sent around what she did this Morning, she told me that of the seal Ebierbing so happily brought in only three good meals were left to us. This I told her was too bad - [[underlined]] too bad, indeed! [[/underlined]] Ebierbing made the remark this Morning which I was really pleased to hear, that he intended to keep a good share of this seal for himself, Tuk-oo-li-too & myself, as he thought we really needed it. The intent was good, but the generous hearts - generous to a fault, I may say - of these creatures have again left them almost foodless!

Ebierbing came near returning at 12 (Midnight) with a very large Seal. At that time one came up to the hole - puffed two or three times when he (E.) stuck down with his Oo-nar (Harpoon or spear) but just missed it! He remained however over the same hole awaiting the "blow" of another (often 2 seals use the same hole he informs me) when just before day light a seal was captured & brought or rather dragged home. No sooner was "Seal-Feast" over than E. said he should proceede shortly & try for another Seal!

For dinner, cooked Seal meat - & seal blood soup! For once, at least, all I could eat! I really eat more than I should, considering the small quantity of food I have had of late. In this excess, or over abundant eating, I act the Innuit out & out! "While in Rome must do as the Romans do", as the old saw goes.

E. started out at 12 (Noon) with his 2 fine seal dogs. In 2 hours Oo-kood-lear who accompanied him out, returned with the dogs. She says they found two seal holes - the 1st one destroyed as yesterday by the dog "Smile" having pawed

the snow from over the hole.
Over the 2d Ebierbing remained. May he be as successful over it as that of yesterday & last night.

At 3 PM, I saw Ugarny Westward on the ice of the Bay returning. I went out & met him. He was unsuccessful. Had heard no cheerful "blow" of any seal! He looked cold & weary. Indeed he might, for he had been out, day & night since afternoon save coming in yesterday for the dogs to find a new hole without anything to eat or drink! When I told him that Ugarny had brought in a Seal this Morning, he was very happy - as much so for his own stomach's sake as anybody's else. He said in coming in that his feet were very cold last night owing to the dampness of his feet coverings by perspiration - that his hands were cold from poor mittens. It would be thought that a man with three wives would have no reason for such complaints? Ugarny further said he felt coffee (?) hungry. I replied that I would supply him with a Bowl of hot coffee in time to have it with his supper at wh. promise he was thankful.

We arrived 4 OClock P.M. at our Igloos. Punnie had come in before my starting out to meet her Winga, (1/3 of Ugarny is hers she being wife No3) on an errand for Kunnia, wife No2, also wanted [[underlined]] some more [[/underlined]] Seal blood of Tuk-oo-li-too! Yet, from the small quantity left & though a liberal amount had been given 5 hours before to the same party, [[underlined]] more was given! [[/underlined]] I saw that T. felt overwhelmed with grief that she should thus be called upon for what she could not spare but at the great sacrifice of her own, Ebierbing's & my own necessities. She could not say 'No', therefore give she did, as already stated.

Soon as I entered the Igloo (at 4) on Ugarny's & my arrival, who should send in for some more Ook-sook but wife of Ugarny No1 'Polly' (Nik-u-jar)? In the Morning T. sent into her a very abundant supply for several days as well as seal meat
