1861 Feb. 20th Wednes.

Ebierbing & Tuk-oo-li-too are the two principal parties to whom I look with great hopes of being great assistants to me in my voyage to King William's Land the coming season. This journal (ante) will show how much I value them. I trust I do not overestimate their worth - or place more confidence in them than I should. I have now been a member of their Igloo for over a month - have studied them well, & find them to be happily mated - of kindly disposition & [[underlined]] great Workers. [[/underlined]] But especially do I find them good company & [[strikethrough] to be [[/strikethrough]] able to converse fluently in American. [[underlined]] Tuk-oo-li-too, [[/underlined]] indeed, [[underlined]] is the best interpreter of Esquimaux into American language of any native living! [[/underlined]] She is a correct speaker of her own language - can accomodate her conversation to that of Innuits hailing from various sections of the Northern Coasts which indeed is an accomplishment possessed by no native whom I have met, or of whom I have heard. All in all, I have been fortunate in meeting & becoming acquainted with Ebierbing & Tuk-oo-li-too - of acquiring their confidence & friendships. May the same goodly feeling now [[strikethrough]] existed [[/strikethrough]] existing between us continue without end.

The talk [[underlined]] 'What is to be! [[/underlined]] the indications!!

To-day the dogs have been fed up, & allowed rest, with the exception of being used for a short trip down the Bay to get the remainder of the things left on the ice by Ugarny when he came up from the "George Henry"

Here within the walls of my little Cabin am I again! I am back [[strikethrough]] again [[/strikethrough]] in the presence of my old friend Capt. Sidney O. Budington, who to-night with those of his command, warmly bid me "Welcome" again to their midst!

Early this Morning we were all up & [[underlined]] doing. [[/underlined]] As we peered out of the ventilating & look-out hole of the Igloo, stars - [[strikethrough]] indicated [[/strikethrough]] & a clear sky met our anxious eye. On going out I found the temperature of the air & the quietude of it quite in character to answer my hopeful wishes for a fine opportunity to make my day's journey.
