The first [[underlined]] thought [[/underlined]] of the day, [[strikethrough]] is [[/strikethrough]] was one [[strikethrough]] putting [[/strikethrough]] of my country - of "my dear native land"! What was [[strikethrough]] is [[/strikethrough]] it?
The answer to this may be gathered from the remark of Capt. B. as he spoke to me this morning, while I was in my "bunk" rubbing my eyes from my night's sleep. Said he:
'This is an important day in the affairs of our country!
Why, what is it Captain? - was my instant interrogation.
'The new President takes his seat to-day' - he responded.
'Thought' & said I: [[underlined]] This is the day [[/underlined]] - Fourth of March 1861! I had not thought of it - Well, wherever he may be, may he prove [[underlined]] worthy [[/underlined]] of the position, - [[underlined]] PRESIDENT of the most glorious Country on God's Earth. [[/underlined]]

I did not conclude to accompany the parties who started off about X this Morning, to Frobisher Bay. I prefer waiting a few days longer before making

that important trip.

"Miner" ([[space]]) & his nuliana "Suzy" ([[space]]) with their worldly goods went with them. All 4 desired I would go very much. Before leaving "Suzy" came & presented me a bountiful piece of raw seal-meat (of the one last captured by her persevering winga). Knowing her taste, & love for all articles of the kind, I made her a present of few strings of small glass beads variegated colors [[strikethrough]] of ^ [[/strikethrough]] (Su-pung-ers).

A X o'clock this Morning - from "stern to stern", every one was on "tip-toe" with excitement, created by 2 Reindeer [[strikethrough]] some [[/strikethrough]] seen on the ice, N.W. of the "George Henry" - & approaching us. My rifle was soon out, & in the hands of Quejesse who moved carefully around an Islet within a short distance, of where the Tuk-too evidently would soon pass. We all looked anxiously to the result, [[underlined]] (as much on account of the good eating, as any thing else), of [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] Quejesse's 1st shot. He either missed altogether, or the [[underlined]] mortal [[/underlined]] sport. My Greenlanders, hearing the report of the Rifle, pricked up their ears & darted away, following the tracks of the game here & there. [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] After 2 hours chase, "Bar-be-Kark" - the "Knowing dog" - returned covered with [[underlined]] blood [[/underlined]] wh. some of the men declare to be that of Rein-deer!

"Bruce", the name of the one forward so badly afflicted with the scurvy, is growing worse
Capt. B. humanely [[underlined]] took him [[/underlined]] out after dinner [[strikethrough]] & went [[/strikethrough]] for a walk around "Rescue" Island, after wh. he gave him a [[strikethrough]] piece [[/strikethrough]] piece of raw seal - him to eat - the best [[underlined]] antidote [[/underlined]] in the world
[[underlined]] for this scorbutic complaint.

The preceeding record of this day was written prior to 2 o'clk PM
