I may add that the following remark accompanies the "G. Henry's" Chro: "In cold weather this Chro will run on Mean time; or, have a small lobing rate"
The "Variance" in the 2 Chro's makes nearly

the difference of one degree in Long.

The Chronometers are kept in a room of nearly even, moderate temperature - therefore the rates should be applied as determined before starting on the voyage. Yet the fault of the increasing Variation I hope to correct in a few days - determining wh. Chro needs [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] a new rate. As I have stated before, I think the Rescue's time faulty.

Sterry, "Spikes" & John Gray who went over to one of the Frobisher Bay settlements last [[symbol: cross]] returned this P.M., 3 o'clock
Each have responded to my enquiries - They all agree that they well treated - lived on raw [[strikethrough]] & cooked [[/strikethrough]] frozen Walrus meat most of the time tho' frequently partook of it cooked.

Arrangements have been made this P.M. for Koo-jesse (been writing the name Que-jesse) & Charley (Koo-per-nu-ung) to take a team of dogs & sledge in the morning & visit Annawa's settlement at Frobisher Bay the object being to traffic for Walrus tusks & meat. The article used as money here North is To-bac-co. Instead of saying as in the States "I will give you one Dollar - one Dollar & a half - (or any other amount) for this or that we say I will give one plug To-bac-co" - 5 plugs (or any number we deed sufficient) for this or that.

XI o'clock P.M. Stars are out but dimly. No Aurora
Capt. B. predicted on the appearance of the "Sun dogs" to-day a storm of some kind in 48 hours or less.
