This Morning stood out in beautiful contrast to the weather of yesterday Morning. For a while the sun came out, gladdening earth & all the inhabitants hereabouts with its light & warmth giving rays.

In some places I noticed slight meltings of the snow
This eve it is thick again though over-head now & then a star appears. A bright streak near the horizon away to the N.W. begins to open. This indicates wind from the N.W. to come to-morrow & fair weather.

A hard night I had of it - I mean least night. The abscess (bile) on my left shoulder is a serious one. By an unthinking act of mine a few days ago I have made my sufferings prolonged & of an excrutiating character. Days before this abscess had reached its culminating point, I actually [[underlined]] gouged [[/underlined]] with my finger nails a "heading". In fact I am not the [[underlined]] Aldermanic looking [[/strikethrough]] personage as when I left Home. I weighed there a good 215 to 219 lbs! - If I exceede 160 lbs. [[underlined]] now, [[/underlined]] I have not lost the flesh I think I have.

If the weather proves favorable to-morrow Mr Rogers (Mate R) the 2 Innuits Charley & Kujesse with dogs & sledge proceede to Frobisher Bay Whaling Station, with another load. On arriving at that point, they proceede N. Westward to the Innuit settlements & there by barter procure a load Walrus mean, if such is to be had.

Charley & Ku-jes-se have been out hunting Seal-Igloos all day. The former has been successful in capturing two young Seals! The latter is bitterly disappointed in not securing any. Worse than this: - he is "Mad" - indignant to a very high pitch, that he has tried the day long & got nothing. Thus it goes with Innuits - Sometimes successful - & oft times the reverse.
