I was somewhat interested at Meridian to-day & 3 hours after by these simple facts.

I had a Thermometer in the shade & one in the Sun at 12 & also at three P.M. - At 12 they both stood at zero - At three they indicated minus four degrees.

The Sun was shining brightly upon the one wh was in a spot well calculated for receiving all the warmth it had to give.  The facts are now given with perhaps this wh. I now state the Wind blowing strong from N.W.

To-night the Auroral Display fine 
At IX-40 presented this appearance running from the W. to the E. (South of the vessel.)

The upper belt was 25° above the horizon the 3d or lower in it (horizon).

This Morning, Mate Rogers with Que-jesse the Innuit dog-driver started off with Dogs ([[space]]) & Sledge with a 3 barrell cask of necessary articles for use in the Spring Whaling - for Frobisher Bay by way of "Frenchman's Head" & the Bay entered by the "Rescue" last Fall.

("Frenchman's Head" is [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] what we have titled the buttress like Mountain at the entrance of said Bay in commemoration of the Frenchman "John Brown", who met his terrible death at the base of said Mountain.)

This train started off at VI.  Before 12 (Meridian) there was every indication of an approaching Gale. The wind by 12 came from the N.E. & blowed W hard.

At 1/2 past 9 to-night Lamb going upon deck, heard the approach of this party by the cry of the dogs.  He called down us in the cabin that sledge was coming.  We were all astonished knowing that a Gale accompanied with thick falling snow had been since noon, & was now sweeping over us.
