I asked Mate R. what they would have done had they not found the ship? He said that Que-jes-se had mentioned, about the time of trying the course of "Bar-be-Kark", that they would soon have to stop for [[strikethrough]] this [[/strikethrough]] the night, & [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] the way they were to spend it was by stopping - throwing themselves in the midst of the dogs, drawing the Polar Bear skins (they had 2 with them) over them & thus sleep to the thunderings of the storm till morning light should show them where they were.

How much wiser it would have been to have listened to the advice of Que-jes-se to build an Igloo where they were at the head of Bay where the casks are being carried! Innuits understand well the way to meet the warring elements of their Region. White man must listen to their experiences unreasonable as [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] they may sometime seem.

My afflicted shoulder gets along slowly - Thanks to God I can still be pursuing my studies in Navigation, Astronomy & Surveying.

The weather is yet tempestuous - No one ventures out to-day. [[underlined]] Que-jes-se is blind [[/underlined]] from the exposure to the storm last night. Mate Rogers' face [[strikethrough]] is [[/strikethrough]] shows what [[underlined]] contrasts storms can paint in one day. [[/underlined]] The uncovered portions of his skin are of deep, darker red, while the shielded parts are white [[strikethrough]] as the [[/strikethrough]] as a White Man's. One can soon read the causes why Innuits have the dark skin they have - White Man's would become equally so, [[underlined]] let their exposures be the same for a course of time here north. [[/underlined]]

I have here said 'Let the White man's exposures be the same as Innuits for a course of time & his skin would become as Iron like in endurance & leather like in looks.

White man - [[underlined]] White men cannot outlive the exposures of the Innuits. [[/underlined]] by the by.

Of this I am satisfied. God has so formed these creatures of the North that they can brave - can battle the Cold Storms without
