but I am sorry to add: not a whale seen. Only one whale seen & now we're a month that the George Henry's Company has been here. Well the Captain's sentiment is as applicable to this case as to any other then - "Whatever is is". But it must be confessed that it [[underlined]] is [[/underlined]] a hard pill to go down. Whales, I am confident will be here yet this season. The Innuits do not falsify in these matters - their information is reliable - [[underlined]] this is a Whale Bay. [[/underlined]]

I now simply touch upon a subject [[underlined]] all important to me in my future movements. [[/underlined]] Capt. Budington says that he has been out in this (Frobisher) Bay several times since coming over & that he has been much impressed with the subject of my making my trip, or voyage, this Summer, as expected, in a [[underlined]] Whale Boat. [[/underlined]] He thought it his duty to open the matter to me at once, announcing what conclusion he had come to - though painful as it had been to him & knew it would be so to me. The Boat which I had made in the States, specially designed & made for my Expedition to King William's Land - was a suitable one for me - but a Whale Boat was unfit. Capt. B. continued to say that I had not any more of an outfit provisions &c than I should carry but that with the crew necessary, [[underlined]] I could not possibly carry more than a very small proportion of what I had. [[/underlined]] He found that with the Boat's crew & the three line [[?tubs]] such boat has,[[strikethrough]]carry [[/strikethrough]] that no additional weight could be added to navigate in such waters as he knew I would be obliged to, in getting to the point of my destination.

This is a serious matter with me - one pregnant with such thoughts I [[underlined]] cannot [[/underlined]] put upon paper - I cannot - I will not sell my life foolishly. If the loss of my expedition boat which was well planned & strongly made has taken from me the proper the only [[underlined]] judicious means [[/underlined]] of carrying out my purpose of going to King William's Land, then I must delay. I must lose one year in returning to the States & preparing again for that voyage I am still determined to make - [[underlined]] God Willing. [[/underlined]] I will return in my journal to this subject again.

This morning I was visited by numerous Innuits who treated me very kindly & attentively. "Puto", the Inuit mother of the child whose father is a Kad-lu-nar (White man) was among the number. Her winga is dead therefore her lot is a hard one as is always the case with widows here. I gave her several little trinkets with which she was greatly pleased but when I gave her a box of Pet. Caps (100) she [[strikethrough]] cried [[/strikethrough]] wept for joy. With them she says she can trade for many conveniences among her people.
Anything in way of ammunition is thought more of by the Innuits than most other articles that can be named.
