I have taken a tramp to day performing great labor to little purpose. I was accompanied by youngest son of Kokerjobin ("Capatain") who has been with me on various tramps before. However he proved of more trouble to me this time than any service rendered.
The labor of which I write as 'great' was in travelling 15 miles to get to a point of land not more than 2 1/3 miles off, direct. The design I had was to visit one of the entrances - or rather one of the channels leading to the strait or channel connecting "Rescue Bay" & "Frobisher Bay". I have been beside the Western fork - & have returned.

To get to the point I desired I was obliged to first make for the head of the Bay we entered with the "Rescue" last Fall. This I done by walking through soft, wet snows that covered ice of Frobisher Bay & land in my courses. Arriving to the head of the Bay before indicated, I found on making for the high land there that to cross over S. East to the mountains beside the channel desired I would have to follow a circuitous ridge of stones just above the water's edge. I done so - then mounted mountain after mountain - crossed from the base of one to another through deep snows that gave easy reception to my whole body as oft as I pressed it. At last I was at the place sought - everywhere I went fossil stones in abundance - even to the very tops of the mountains. At Meridian dinner beside that channel giving to my young Innuit company a liberal share of it. The [[?fish]] of the [[?shrub]] [[space]] used by the Innuits. Meridian Altitude of snow by a little snow water puddle - its constant distortions & dancing of the [[circumpunct symbol: solar system]]

The sighting - the missing of my company - the call - no reply - the precipice near by - I alarmed - pack up traps & seek for him. with my "Marine" seek out his tracks - find he has deserted me & takes a wrong direction - obliged to leave my work undone to seek the wayward child - find him attempting to cross direct from Budington ville. Reprimand him & start on the proper course.

I here copy what I placed upon paper but only a portion [[strikethrough]] with direct [[/strikethrough]] can be used with
