(5 1861 July 7 + [[Sunday]] Short time after returning to vessel & small company of Innuits seen approaching from N.W. on the ice. Our glasses made out that Ugarny & his family were coming. They arrived about VIII P.M. the 2 wives drawing a small sled while U. has a bundle of Took-too skins on his back. The sled was loaded with Venison. U. killed 3 young deer & 1 full size yesterday. Well we shall have some [[underlined]] fine [[/underlined]] eating now for he (U) always comes with something good for us. I know not whether I have made record of this fact - Ugarny & Ankoot (each) have killed a White Whale at Oo-kood-lear (Budington Bay). Ebierbing is out again. Charley & Que-jesse start back to-morrow Morning with dogs & sledges to bring up another lot of the G.H's men & things. [[end page]] [[start page]] Monday, July 8th 61 A.M. 44°-28,4 N.W. Under Capt B.'s eye I wrote letter to Gardiner this Morn to hasten up with his boat's crew to let Ugarny have his Boat - & to put into it whale line & grub. Ugarny & his wives with child Menom left this A.M. with Charley [[space]] & Que-jes-se for Og-bir-sier o-ping (Budington Ville). There U takes his Boat & makes his way around to Oo-kood-lear. The motherless child of Ugarny is [[underlined]] poor, [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] unlike [[/underlined]] in every look & feature what it was when Nik-u-ju its mother was living. I fear the infant will die. Kunnin [[underlined]] "backs" [[/underlined]] it wherever she goes. Capt B. took my rifle & went out on the ice & killed a seal before breakfast! I offered him my hat on his reappearance coming up the gang-way steps! He refused the honor!!
