Last night, Bob (King-Wat-Che-ung) with several other Innuits, went up to what I have called ^[[in my journal of last winter]] "Upper Village", & brought down his boat, an English whale Boat. It was drawn on a Kum-mi-tie (sledge) ^[[over]] the ice:

their Summer excursions for Tuk-too-ing & catching salmon.
Before leaving, I gave to Ugarny a sheet of Draughting paper with pencil that he may make a sketch of the coast ^[[Islands etc.]] from here to Cape Mercy, E. entrance to Northumberland Inlet. He agreed to do it in his best way during time not otherwise engaged this Summer - so that I may have it to [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] take home with me to the States. I wish this as a specimen of Innuit capacity to deliniate his country.
Ugarny is a smart Innuit - [[underlined]] but full of devil [[/underlined]] as those who know him best must acknowledge. He is one that Capt. B. has treated very kindly, making him ^[[valuable]] presents [[strikethrough]] attend [[/strikethrough]] without number - attending him when sick, doing all for him that a noble, generous heart could, & yet, Ugarny [[underlined]] is ungrateful [[/underlined]] - even more - a Viper! From the exhibition of U's acts while here this time, Capt. B. has had great & good reasons for exclaiming:
"How sharper than a serpents tooth Is a thankless Child!"
