Whales & shot 60 ducks - all in fine condition for eating.
Several Walrus have been captured within the last few weeks. Instead of several, scores might have been secured had that been the purpose or business of G.H.'s men. Mate Rodgers tells me that one day last week in cruising for whales he went with 2 Boats & crews half way across this (Frobisher Bay) that he mounted an Iceberg 100 feet above the sea & with spy took a look all around for Whales. but one revengeful old fellow succeeded in striking his Ivory tusks through the side of the Boat causing the water to rush in endangering the lives of those in the Boat. Thus he was prepared to make for land - distant 30 miles - perfectly satisfied that Whale Boats are not exactly the kind for capturing Walrus of Frobisher Bay.
Why cannot a profitable business lie prosecuted in Frobisher Bay in the Walrus line? I am satisfied it can be. The hide or skin is worth in say # 5£ to 6£ $25. to $30. The tusks are worth in the States 50 cents per lb. - the blubber will make oil worth as much per gallon as the team have obtained. A small vessel with proper outfit sent here by the House of Williams & Haven employing the natives to assist in prosecuting the work would pay largely
