find it out till we made it smart efforts in pulling toward the spot where he disappeared.  Five minutes after we saw him in the distance flippering his carcass beyond our reach.  We then struck for the Rescue's Hull.  Tide had turned - was coming in, yet the water was 6 inches lower than when we 1st visited it.  Getting down into her lower parts, I saw beneath the water a shovel.  Taking Kood-loo's Neitch-sik (a light stick 4 feet long with a hook upon it, an instrument wh. Innuits use to catch fish) I fastened it upon the hull & drew shovel out.  Then I proceeded to sound for Coal - found it had all been taken out when clear of ice - standing upon one of the oars of wh. I made a bridge & running a "feeler" along the bottom of the long pile of solid ice that still remains in the hold I heard the rattle of Coal.  By means of a Crow-bar wh. I also fished (?) out I pick along on the ice resting upon it till by hard work of an hour I got 2 1/2 Buckets hard Coal.  Tide leaving obstructed further pursuit of the object of this visit we left the wreck.
As I left the "George Henry" this Morning & was about pushing off an old Coal stove was handed out of the Gang-way & lowered down into the Boat.  Not
