offered to use all his influence in inducing them to accompany me.  Capt. B.'s present during this interview of piece of cheese & a fine pie that he had ready for me.  Was about to send these to me by Koo-jesse who was soon to come for the dogs.  Shall hope to enjoy the eating of this Head of Frobisher Bay in 2 weeks from this under the flag of our glorious country.
The allusions of Capt B. short time after getting aboard of his gladness that I had come to-day for he knew he was going to have my favorite dish for dinner BEANS!  The Steward thought afterward to gratify me by telling me what they were going to have for dinner today.  But I told him though glad to hear it yet Capt B. had anticipated him.  On getting aboard found Innuits gone off in Boat Deer hunting.
Short time after getting on deck, I start off Kood-loo up among the very numerous Islands around here sealing & ducking - he took along with him a youthful crew but they seemed to manage the oars like those able & who understand it.

1861 Aug 7 Wedns.

To-day one of the men (Sterry) of G.H. came to me [[strikethrough]] & exhibited [[/strikethrough]] & holding out something in his hand asked me if I had ever seen that before?  I saw at once that it was a fine 3 bladed knife that I presented last fall to Ugarny bout the time I expected to accompany him & family on a bear hunt.  He (S.) said that he got it of Ugarny for 2 knives - 2 very poor knives!  this certainly was no pleasing information to me.  But it is too often the case that when an Innuit possesses a [[underlined]] really good thing, [[/underlined]] valuable [[underlined]] for use. [[/underlined]]  Some Kod-lu-na will follow him up till he (Kodlunar) possesses it without a fair equivalent.  Many instances have occurred of this kind to my own knowledge.
While at the vessel at the change of tide, from ebb to flow, Capt. B. dropped the sounding line out of the gang-way & called out to me depth '10 1/2 fathoms'.  Ther. Noon 51°.
I awaited till after two for the return of the Innuits who went out deer-hunting in the morning - being desirous of seeing whether Koo-jesse & Koo-per-neu-ung would
