The White coat of Ni-noo about the head was now crimsoning with its life's blood. Yet several more shots were made & occasional one being effective. The head was our mark. I made one shot with my rifle - it may have hit & perhaps not. This much I can say, instantly on firing, my attention was drawn in an opposite direction from Ninoo & if I did not see the Ball, [[underlined]] I saw moving waters! [[/underlined]] No easy matter to an inexperienced person to hit even "a barn door", provided he is 40 rods from it & in a dancing boat!
By our management of the boat, now succeeded in turning the Ni-noo toward Oo-pung-ne-wing. We were distant 2 1/2 miles from O. when we done this.
The policy now became to make Ni-noo [[underlined]] tow his own carcass [[/underlined]] as near Oo-pung-ne-wing as we deemed prudent - & then put an end to his life. When within 1/8 of a mile of land, re-commenced firing. The final shot by Koo-per-neu-ung, Ni-noo dropping his head instantly, & without making another motion.
During this chase from the commencement of firing Tu-nuk-de-lier remained reclining in the stern of the boat completely covered over with took-too skins. In the midst of the fray Ar-chuk-en-zhun in the same position. Koo-ou-le-urny [[underlined]] having a brave heart, [[/underlined]] continued constant at the oar doing great service.
I came near losing my life during the pursuit. Koo-jes-se was seated on the locker at the stern of the Boat & was in readiness to pull trigger on his gun leveled at Ni-noo, when I rose up hastily from my seated position

facing forward, [[underlined]] directly in line with the Koo-jes-se's gun! [[/underlined]] My escape from instant death was a narrow one. Koo-jes-se instantly dropt his gun looking very much frightened - as indeed I must have looked the same when I learned the cause of his fright. It was a [[underlined]] Providential [[/underlined]] escape surely!
Soon as final shot (VII-15) was made we took Ni-noo in tow fastening a Walrus thong around his lower jaw, its huge teeth serving effectively to keep the noose from slipping off. Under way, the progress was very slow Ni-noo hanging back like a ponderous [[?drug/drag]].
At hVIII-m07 (Chro.) made landing on S.W. side Oo-pung-ne-wing, the Innuits feeling too much exhausted to Ninoo to Ni-ountelik, the Island on wh. I had intended to make my 3d Encampment. But I knew that I could take the Boat at any time during our stay at Oo-pung-ne-wing & quickly make passage to N. therefore I cheerfully consented.

I now return to relate my escape from top of Oo-pung-ne-wing & the immediate departure for Ni-oun-te-lik - but above all, [[underlined]] my discovery of relics of Frobisher's Expedition of 1578! [[/underlined]]
I intended to prolong my stay on the top of Oo-pung-ne-wing to make other observations, but the work became too much of the [[underlined]] War [[/underlined]] character. I doubt not
