This did not excite me as a matter extraordinary, knowing that the Whalers now visit every year the Inlet at the N., called "Northumberland Inlet" (the "Cumberland Straits" of Davis) & distribute freely among the Innuits various articles of civilization - especially among the female portion, cast off calico dresses that they have brought from the States, or from England wh. are highly prized by the Inuit ladies! It would be an [[underlined]] extraordinary matter [[/underlined]] to find at the present day an Innuit family that did not possess something of the kind as this piece of calico which we found where I have already stated. There is not an Innuit family around Frobisher Bay, or [[strikethrough]] Rescue [[/strikethrough]] Field Bay or [[strikethrough]] Budington [[/strikethrough]] C. Grinnell Bay but has at sometime or other been to Northumberland Inlet.
At said point of finding the ennumerated articles, we made a [[strikethrough]] thorough [[/strikethrough]] complete search for brick; but in vain. Thence we continued on around the Island finding every few fathoms in our progress, numerous signs of [[underlined]] Innuit [[/underlined]] relics. At length we arrived at a plain that extended back some considerable distance from the coast by wh. (that is by the coast) we confined our walk in our search. Here we recognized at our right the point where we 1st directed our steps on reading the high bank

after leaving the Boat. I was several fathoms in advance of Koo-ou-le-arny hastening on, being desirous to make as extended a search as the short time of remaining day-light would allow; when, lifting my eyes from the ground near me, I discovered a considerable distance ahead what [[underlined]] seemed [[/underlined]] to me at the 1st sigh, of an unusual appearance. But a second look satisfied me that what I saw were simply stones scatted about & covered with black moss. I continued my course keeping as near the coast as possible, my eyes constantly searching [[underlined]] searchingly [[/underlined]] to the right, then to the left, then a little in advance, & so on as I trudged. I was now nearing the spot where I had 1st descried the black. It again met my view & the first thought on 1st seeing the same, resumed at once the ascendency in my mind. I hastened to the spot -----
'Great God, Thou has rewarded me in my search'! was the sentiment that came overwhelmingly into my thankful soul
On casting my eyes all around, seeing & feeling the character ("moss aged" - for some of the pieces I saw had pellicles of black moss on them) of the [[underlined]] relics [[/underlined]] before & under me, I felt as --- [[underlined]] I cannot tell what [[/underlined]]
