On starting [[in blue]] ^[[on my walk]] [[/in blue]] & proceeding a short distance from 5th encampment came across remains of many Innuit residences of former days when they used to build them of earth & stone. The bones of the Whale as well [[strikethrough]] every [[/strikethrough]] all other [[strikethrough]] species of [[/strikethrough]] animals prominent for their ^[[(the Innuits)]] subsistence were numerous & ma^[[n]]y very old - perhaps hundreds of years - most probably so. One shoulder blade of the Whale I measured 5 feet circle ^[[(arc)]] - 4 feet radius - ^[[Whale]] ribs too were scattered here & there - one 8 feet in length.
The graves - absence of all the bones! Here was a blubber cask [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] sawed in two. One half set up & full of water - the other had tumbled down - being Dry & "all [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] oak". I [[strikethrough]] packed [[/strikethrough]] gathered up the staves & head, & carried them to the shore & called to Koo-jes-se who ^[[with crew & Boat]] was passing up the Channel between the Island Nou-yarne & [[in blue]] ^[[the coast of Ming-u-toon,]] [[/in blue]] where I was. I passed on. A few minutes after, saw his [[in blue]] ^[[K's]] [[/in blue]] crew ^[[taking in]] [[strikethrough]] loading an [[/strikethrough]] said staves &c. for our cooking use. The [[in blue]] x [[/in blue]] iron hoops I saw piled up there.

I was up early this Morn tho' I retired late. Finding the tide ebbing [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] I called to my right hand man, Koo-jes-se, who immediately responded by getting up & calling all others. Without a moments delay we struck Tupiks & in 15 minutes had every thing in the Boat ready for the "Dry Land (?) route!
Before stepping into the Boat I took Koo-jesse upon the point of the Island & with his ^[[assistance [[strikethrough]] with his [[/strikethrough]] in way of]] sharp eyes set my Az. Compass upon the spot where we took Koo-per-neu-ung aboard the eve before. The fog was almost impenetrable but by a little patience obtained correct sight wh. was 224° by Az. Compass

This done we run with all speed for the Boat & departed for the desperate work of running the [[underlined]] "Mill-race" [[/underlined]] - [[in blue]] ^[[i.e.]] [[/in blue]] waters that were pouring over the rocks that were now near the surface.
