Clean brarren rocks - but seldom any vegitation. Rocks in many cases thin strata standing almost perpendicular. No Bay between Cape Opera Glass & the one by wh. we have 8th Encampment yet there is a gradual circling in from said Cape to the Mount with sharp peak in Course - at the middle perhaps 1/2 mile deep the deepest part of the Circle.
Quite numerous Islands along near the Coast. Snow entirely off the land this side the Bay (F.B.)
Stopped for water on an Island on the way here.
Just XII Chro. or 7 P.M. when we drawed up to this & made 8th Encampment.
While crew were engaged unloading Boat & the ladies (?) in erecting tupik, I took compass & spy & directed my steps to the Mount flanking us. Saw away up these passed [[?store]] many shells among those that had been eaten free by Time.

President's Seat " " " [[dittos for: over the Kin-gaite side]] 136°
Peak of Mt. on S. or opposite side (by Boat C.) of the Bay by wh. we have our 8th Encamp 160

On descending I went on the opposite side next a bight that made up into the land. The side of the Mount next to the water was perpendicular. The Winters of the N. have thrown down a mass of stone to the base of the Mount that enabled me to pass from where I was along the bottom of the Mt. to another Mt. in my course back to tupiks. I cannot portray on paper what were my feelings as I made my way over this debris looking above & around me! The sight was awe-inspiring. God hath builded the mountains - & He continueth this Great & mighty power by tumbling them down again. Above me were hanging the whole side of a mountain ready it seemed at any moment at the simple snap of one's finger to tumble down making the Earth to rock
