I have not a [[underlined]] good [[/underlined]] Artificial Horizon.  Any one who has experience in the use of such an Instrument, if such it an be called, knows well how important it is that the Horizon should be perfect.  The observations I have just made approximate, & that is all.  The first 2 are decidedly wrong, or, those wh. follow are.  I make record precisely as the Obs. are.  In making 3d Obsn I found the horizon glass wh. covered the [[?Marennay]] had moved & remained fixed.  I went to it & adjusted it that it might play free.  Then proceeded with Obs.
I shall make Meridional Obs. to-morrow if [[symbol: Sun]] will admit of them (& probably on other days as I shall remain here for some time) & then I can determine the good, if such there are among those made to-day.
My heart yearns for good instruments & a greater variety than I have.  A Theodolite is an instrument I should have;  but I must make the best of it, thanking God for the abundance of Blessings He hath showered -
