How is it with the land around here?  They are fat - "fat as butter".  The paunch of the rein-deer killed by Koo-jes-se on the day of our arrival have now filled to its utmost limit of expansion with the grasses mosses & leaves of various plants that abound here.  The animal was very fat - lined with Tood-roots that goes much better with [[strikethrough]] than as [[/strikethrough]] bather-[[strikethrough]] dress.  As It is [[/strikethrough]]  Superior indeed is it [[strikethrough]] in eating than [[/strikethrough]] as sweet, golden butter to lard.
The Venison is very tender, almost falling in pieces as you attempt to lift a steak by its edge.  So it is with all the Took-too that have yet been killed here.
Rabits are in fine condition.  Not only are these animals so now but, they must be nearly in as good order here in Winter for God hath given them the means [[strikethrough]] whereby [[/strikethrough]] to make way through the garb of White with wh. he clotheth the Earth here, for

The Glasses (mirrors) of the Sextant are so poor - in so damaged a state that it is almost impossible to make good obs. with it.  I must make the best of it.
Kood-loo returned this Morning with the skins of Tood-noo [[strikethrough]] (fat) [[/strikethrough]] Tallow of 3 rein-deer wh. he has killed since his leaving the Boat Fri. Noon.  In all our party of hunters (3) have killed now [[underlined]] Eleven [[/underlined]] rein-deer.  But a very little of the Venison has been secured - simply the skins & fat.  He (K.) shot at many others, but gun being poor lost them.
Koo-jes-se, Koo-per-neu-ung, Kood-loo & men Innuits of other Boat Tuk-too-ing.  [[underlined]] They are out on a deer hunt to-day. [[/underlined]]  Twer-oony & Shekong went also.
